Honda Yuasa Racing first entered the BTCC back in 1991 as the family run Team Dynamics squad and achieved official factory support from Honda for the first time in 2010.
The team’s tally of BTCC titles stands at an incredible 22, including four overall drivers’ and six overall teams’ championships, with over 500 races entered in the championship.
2015 is another historic year for Honda in the BTCC as it brings the hugely anticipated Civic Type R to the track before it even appears in the showrooms. With Shedden and Neal joining forces for the sixth successive season, expect them to be at the sharp end yet again this year.
In partnership with Motorbase Performance – who built the successful Ford Focus – Dextra Racing ismaking its debut in the BTCC in 2015. The car is being run by Team Parker Racing, the successful GT and Porsche Carrera Cup squad.
The Leicestershire team initially became famed for its many championship wins in Caterham racing, and this is reflected in its status today as the company that manages Caterham’s corporate work.
Initially running as BTC Racing, the team entered the BTCC at the tail end of 2006, fielding Lexus IS 200s for Chris Stockton and Darren Dowling.
Power Maxed took technical control of the team for 2015 and expanded to a two-car Chevrolet Cruzeoperation. Renault UK Clio Cup runner up Josh Cook joins the series alongside race winner Dave Newsham for the coming campaign.
Exocet Alcosense joined the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as Rob Austin Racing in 2011, and has fielded an Audi A4 for its eponymous driver ever since. His Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) Audi A4 immediately made an impact, and Austin scored a podium in his first season at Rockingham.
Two years later, the fearsomely fast Rockingham Motor Speedway was to be the scene of an emotional first BTCC victory for Austin and his Audi that has been affectionately dubbed ‘Sherman’ by his ever-growing army of fans.

The Sport Maxx Medium compound is used twice at every race weekend, except at Thruxton circuit and in wet conditions.
Dunlop use the same tyre in the cold weather we get in March and October as in the height of summer. Therefore, it has more in common with a road car tyre than many specialist racing tyres. It is designed to give the driver confidence with minimal need for warming – that’s really important in a championship where tyre warmers are banned.
The learnings and technologies developed on track are directly cascaded in to Dunlop’s high performance Sport Maxx range that is available for the road.
The Sport Maxx Soft tyre proved an exciting introduction to the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship that produces greater initial grip with less overall durability.
New for the 2015 season, BTCC have introduced a new regulation that stating that each driver must use the soft compound at least three times in Race 1, three times in Race 2 and three times in Race 3 across the season.
Dunlop is first to announce the tyre choices for each driver at 11.00am on each race day via its social media feeds. Thruxton is the only exception to this where all drivers use the Sport Maxx Hard compound.
Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the calendar. However, compared to most fast circuits that have long straights, Thruxton is one long sequence of curves that constantly put tyres under heavy load. Even the start finish ‘straight’ is curved!
In addition, the circuit has a very abrasive surface and our Thruxton tyre has a compound that has been proven to cope with this.
The kerbs at the chicane and the complex are very aggressive and the revised construction is designed to tackle the challenge of a tyre impacting with these kerbs at high speed.
Tyres, whether for the racetrack or the road, are complex things formed of many components. Maintenance and inspection are critical to getting them to function optimally. We recommend that all motorists inspect their tyres regularly, check pressures, avoid kerbing their tyres and have their geometry checked – just as we do with our BTCC teams, carrying out these checks and taking appropriate action will maximize tyre life and performance.
Wet conditions add another little bit of spice to a circuit that already demands skill and precision from the drivers.
Switching to wet tyres has an enormous impact, because a wet tyre has to behave in the exact opposite way to a dry tyre. It needs to be able to cut through the rain water to the track surface, providing both mechanical and chemical grip from the tread pattern and the compound, as well as being able to work at low temperatures and to be able to last a reasonable amount of time on a drying track.
The learnings and technologies developed on track are directly cascaded in to Dunlop’s multi-award winning Sport BluResponse tyre available for the road that has achieved an A rating in the EU tyre label in both fuel efficiency and rolling resistance.
